Resilience is a central theme in the 2030 Agenda, particularly in Goal 11 – “Sustainable Cities and Communities.” Designing resilient spaces means enhancing the ability of territories, buildings, and communities to respond to, adapt to, and recover from environmental, social, and climate crises
At the urban scale, this translates into climate adaptation strategies, sustainable water management, green and blue infrastructure, biodiversity protection, improvement of critical infrastructure, and public services. In construction choices, it is reflected in durable materials, passive solutions, energy efficiency, and spatial flexibility.
Being resilient also means being able to learn, evolve, and improve over time. An integrated approach is needed – one that combines planning, design, engineering, and governance.
