Palazzo degli Affari

A conference center that celebrates the history of modern Italian architecture

The aesthetic-functional restyling of the building returns to the city a masterpiece of 20th century architecture signed by Pierluigi Spadolini. Architecturally, the complete renovation intervention combines high technology, innovation, functional and spatial optimization.

The intervention contributed to the overall enhancement of an area of the city covered by various ongoing works tending to upgrade and concentrate most of Florence's conference and exhibition facilities in the Fortress and neighbouring spaces of Santa Maria Novella station.

DIMENSIONS
5.200 sqm useful area

Located near Florence's historic train station and designed in 1973 by architect Pierluigi Spadolini, Palazzo degli Affari occupies a surface exceeding 5,000 sqm, over five floors, which were completely redeveloped, transforming the Palace into a modern conference center and exhibition area, designed according to the most advanced technological standards.

At the architectural level, the intervention, following the path of history, involved the aesthetic and functional restyling of the building, combining high technology, innovation, functional and spatial optimisation; the aim was to significantly implement the perceived level of quality and comfort, while respecting the best ratio between the benefits and the overall costs of construction, maintenance and management.

The qualifying solution, developed in agreement with the Client and the Superintendence, offered several innovative and upgrading actions. On the ground floor, a new space was recovered, enlarging the existing building, to establish internal connections that logistically, operationally, and functionally make it more responsive to new requirements.

The new interventions, respecting the existing architecture, were well balanced and adjusted to all the adjacent pre-existing buildings, such as the prestigious Villa Vittoria design by Poggi and renovated by Gio-Ponti.

The reorganization of interior spaces included the introduction of movable walls to obtain more flexible layout and multi-functions spaces. The use of said movable and modular elements allows to create up to 15 conference rooms on different floors.

Renovation works also covered the restrooms, the technical spaces and distribution routes optimization, the complete restyling and technological upgrade of the rooms.

The project prioritized the use of renewable resources to achieve high standards of maintenance, durability, compatibility of materials and components, as well as replaceability of the elements.
