Il progetto

The project is concerned with the restoration works to be carried out on the Carmen Longo swimming pool, which was constructed during the 1920s and is located close to the Bologna Municipal Stadium. It is to be used to hold international swimming races in addition to sporting, recreational and training activities. The complex has capacity for 1700 spectators.

The sporting facilities are famous for being the place where the Swedish swimmer, Arne Borg, set the world record for 1500m free-style on 2 September 1927, finishing in under 20 minutes for the first time in history.

The historic building contains an Olympic pool (50 x 30m), a single seating area for spectators and all the facilities necessary for holding sporting activities under the level of the stepped seating. In recent years, a new mobile roof has been constructed made of steel and glass, designed as part of a temporary association with the Studio Majowiecki.

Currently, in addition to conserving restoration works and restructuring the existing spaces, the design envisages the creation of new external buildings to be used for reception, ticket sales, refreshments, restaurants and other services.
