Ponte Leonardo da Vinci

In Sasso Marconi, the Ponte Leonardo da Vinci regains full functionality through an intervention that combines structural memory, innovation and safety.

Politecnica led the design consortium for the redevelopment of the historic infrastructure over the Reno River, preserving the great 144-metre reinforced concrete arch and replacing the existing deck with a new steel-concrete composite structure that is lighter, wider and higher-performing.

The new deck, 15.90 metres wide, accommodates two road lanes and two cycle-pedestrian paths, improving safety, accessibility and connections with the surrounding territory. Particular attention was also devoted to the construction phases, completed in just twelve months while limiting interference with the railway line and safeguarding the Reno River ecosystem.

An integrated engineering project that renews a strategic infrastructure while preserving its identity and its relationship with the landscape of the Bologna Apennines.
